OUR PROJECTS
Our organization is involved in numerous Kathak projects to preserve the heritage of Indian classical music and dance in Australia
Ghungroo School Inc. is an organisation of lovers of art and music whose primary purpose is to promote the traditional North Indian Classical style of Kathak dance on Australian soil. Classical Kathak dance, is an ancient artform that is highly regarded by its patrons across the globe.

EDUCATION
Workshops to promote the pure classical dance form of Kathak in Australia
The classical style of Kathak has its roots in ancient India and its roots are closely associated with those of Yoga and spiritualism. It has many forms that can suit a range of people of varying age groups and mobility; including those of mature ages and limited mobility to youthful and energetic, enthusiastic children with limited skills to highly trained and skilful people. Kathak promotes active living by creating opportunities to prepare, perform and participate in dance and be encouraged to adopt this dance style to be physically more active through creative means
KATHAK CONCERTS
Concerts to provide a platform for overseas Kathak artists to visit Australia to perform and impart their knowledge of the Kathak
Given that North Indian classical style of Kathak is not a mainstream art form, the teachers and practitioners are scattered all over the world and are found in limited numbers outside of India. Concerts are rare opportunities to bring together serious practitioners and students and accomplished Hindustani classical musicians. It provide avenues for beginner students to observe and learn from more accomplished performers and encourage them to continue their pursuit as lifelong learning. It creates opportunities for new people from across different communities to get interested in learning this artform.
AWARENESS
Spread awareness of Kathak through social media platforms
Our experience with past performances with Maroondah Interfaith Network as well as numerous appearances for the Buddha Day Multicultural festivals have proved that Kathak has lot of appeal and acceptance amongst a multicultural audience. Kathak is all about story-telling and the stories have their origins in ancient Indian mythology. By the very nature of mythological stories due to their universal appeal, they remain relevant and survive throughout the ages. Our objective will be to reproduce these stories in a culturally sensitive manner, where the central themes are around promoting love, harmony, peace, innovation, brotherhood and gender equity. Such qualities are universally accepted and therefore our experience is that this will help connect groups of people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

North Indian Classical style of Kathak dance with Hindustani Music is a celebration of creativity, social connection and positivity for the community. Indian classical music and dance are renowned for its universal appeal and ability to connect communities beyond borders. Our projects involve all local artists and volunteers opportunity to connect with like-minded music and dance lovers across the globe, to come together and participate and enjoy in high quality performances.
